Essex Aikikai. Traditional Aikido in Barking & Dagenham
Aikido: Original Japanese Martial Art.
Welcome to the website for Aikido Shin Tokoro - a club for traditional Ueshiba Aikido in the borough of Barking and Dagenham, Essex.
Training on Monday and Thursday evenings, with opportunities for courses around the country and abroad (please click) , the club offers a friendly environment and decent facilities.
Training is in both 'open hand' and Aiki weapons, where bokken, jo and tanto are used.
New students and beginners are always welcome.
Be Fit, Strong & Healthy.
For the uninitiated, Aikido provides a unique approach to martial arts training whereby there is no competition, students do not have to 'fight' to progress through the ranks... (click here)
The way of taking falls and rolls when thrown by a training partner can actually act as a benefit to the body, along with employing the intent of harmonising and controlling attackers without resorting to 'block and counter', there is a true development of the internal and external martial principles.
Aikido emphasises body movement and clever manipulation of an attackers momentum which negates the need for pure strength.
Aikido is suitable for men and women of almost all ages and you do not need to be fit and athletic to take part.
However, prolonged practice in Aikido will bring appreciable benefits to a student's overall wellbeing as well as providing them with self defence skills.
